Xacti HD1a HD camcorder adds wide display, more
Sanyo on Thursday introduced the Xacti HD1a, a compact digital media camera that records both still pictures and digital video. It does it all onto an SD flash memory card. The Xacti HD1a is coming in September for $699.99. The Xacti HD1a records video in 720p and grabs 5.1 megapixel still images. Because it uses SD cards instead of bulky tapes or optical media, it's much more compact than other camcorders. It uses a 10x optical zoom lens and 2.2-inch LCD display. New features in the HD1a include a 16:9 widescreen still picture mode, in-camera video editing, a 30 frames-per-second 320 x 240 MPEG-4 pixel video recording mode called “Web-SHQ," optimized for the video iPod. The 16:9 still image mode grabs 3.8 megapixel images in the same wide-screen format as the Xacti HD1's digital videos.
Warren theaters begin to go digital
The move should increase movie quality for viewers while equipping Warren's theaters for the industry's evolution into live events. "There's no question that movies are going to remain 80 to 90 percent of our business," Warren said. "But the fact is the business is changing. There's 3-D productions like 'Beowulf' and Hannah Montana, live concerts like U2, opera and perhaps even live sporting events." Live events are a marketing niche that theaters are actively pursuing, said Patrick Corcoran, director of media and research for the National Association of Theater Owners. "Previously, live events and the networking necessary to distribute them didn't exist," he said. "Now, during the week when traffic isn't as heavy, operators will be able to bring in more niche, targeted programming like local sports, local and regional concerts." Already, live concerts and some opera performances are being simulcast into digital theaters around the country, Corcoran said.
Marriage processions on main roads banned
He asked the marriage palace owners to inform the police if the hosts of marriage parties did not comply with the orders otherwise they would themselves be booked for the violation. The SSP held a meeting with owners of 65 marriage palaces in and around the city. He said his major concern behind holding the meeting was traffic and security reasons. He also asked them to put close-circuit cameras in the parking, main hall, at the entrance and exit points. They were also directed to install metal detectors at the entrance. The hosts would be required to identify their guests so that no unwanted person got inside the marriage palace and create trouble. The SSP also asked the owners to get the police verification done of the staff working in the palace. The owners should have all past records of the worker along with his photograph and permanent address.
