| Gilmore's gold in first round
WORLD champion Stephanie Gilmore swooped into the new season as the pacesetter in round 1 of the Roxy Pro surfing tournament on the Gold Coast yesterday. The 20-year-old Snapper Rocks board rider posted 15.84 points, the day's top heat score, which included the best ride in good 1.2m waves at Duranbah Beach. Gilmore was the outstanding surfer of the 2008 world tour launch, beating 15-year-old Hawaiian prodigy and Roxy Trials winner Carissa Moore. She said she was relieved to finally don a contest shirt after a blur of commitments as world champion. "It's been a bit crazy with all the awards and activities and stuff, but it felt good to get back in the water," Gilmore said. "I guess I was a bit rusty at the beginning, but I started gaining more and more confidence throughout the heat and felt pretty good by the end." Local knowledge helped Gilmore pick the best waves and take command of the heat.
Power pole knocked down after crash
A crash at Old St. Augustine Road and Pine View Drive knocked out a power pole, but no one was seriously injured. The intersection was blocked off for several hours after the 3 a.m. crash so the power pole could be repaired, but it is now open, said Lt. Ken Bergstrom, of the Tallahassee Police Department. .
Will Infamous JPEG Patent Get A Re-Exam?
I'm not so sure that a simple re-exam this is the right answer. The issues with the USPTO run much further as shared by Mike in a previous post. Too many things changed recently. Less than five years ago, companies had the idea of "You need to replace your product before someone else does" and the idea of patenting processes was something of an afterthought. This was why we had new OSs released every few years, why companies decided to "Take a Swing" and try new concepts in their stores. So until recently, 7-11 used to have frozen coffee machines in many of their stores. Today, I miss the convenience of getting a faux frappuchino from 7-11 when I wanted one. I don't know the details, but maybe someone in legal got involved and as a result, 7-11 stopped selling frozen coffee drinks. What happened last summer explains a few things- Starbucks announced weaker earnings due to "increased demand for frozen drinks".
Millennials learn ropes of cooperation
For 20 years, employers and employees have traipsed out to Garrett Creek Ranch in Wise County to mix, mingle and learn from each other. Two decades of urban encroachment haven't invaded the ranch's 460 acres of pristine, rolling hills in the rural town of Paradise, Texas. Corporate "residents" learn to play nice with each other while sitting on porch rockers or hanging from highline wires on a rope course. .
Newark's Mora Motor Car Co. - 1905
As early as October 1905, a group of public-spirited Newark businessmen, all members of the Newark Board of Trade, had made contact with Mr. Samuel Hancock Mora in Rochester. Mora was looking for a building, and even more importantly, a community to support his venture, that of building motor cars. One of members of the Board of Trade , Thomas W. Martin, had a building for rent, the former Reed Manufacturing Co. plant on the east end of Seigrist Street. The Reed Company, manufacturers of tin ware and enamelware, had vacated the wooden building in 1903 to move just west into their huge brick plant that still stands today as a warehouse owned by Graybill Enterprises. In Rochester, S.H. Mora had left the employ of the Eastman Kodak Co. after nearly 13 years, having risen to head of sales.
Candidates offer final messages before Iowa caucus
I have always admired your family and the things they stood for. I was in college when that fatal day came and we no longer had our inspiration, your brother. I am disappointed in who you are endorsing. To think about all the times that the Clintons were here for you, and now you just put them aside. I think about it, and I thougt you were above the good old boys. Not so sure about that now. Hillary, a women. Maybe that just does not sit well with you Kennedys. I just don't understand. She is a great lady that certainly helped your party out by staying with Bill. The party owes her more than a senate seat. She should have all of you out there shouting her attributes. It was alright for Bill to be used to get votes for our new governor. He also has a short memory. I will have a hard time voting for either one of you because of this.
Russell Brand referring to the Queen and her naughty bits
Life Support is a conventional drama looking at the HIV/AIDS crisis facing America's Black community. The film star Queen Latifah as a reformed crack addict and HIV sufferer who's making amends with her family and herself by running for a HIV outreach centre. Nelson George's social cause soap was based on his HIV positive sister Andrea Williams and has a simple message – denial isn't an option. This is rammed home hard as every character has a link to the virus and many scenes take place in the support group where women discuss coping with day to day living, such as how to tell a new partner you're positive and the benefits of condoms for girls. The female centric melodrama revolves around Latifah's Ana, a hard nose ‘my way or the highway' type, desperate to regain the love of the teenage daughter Kelly (Rachel Nicks) she neglected when she was a user.
